Becks makes Milan impact
David Beckham was delighted with his Serie A debut for AC Milan, having impressed in lasting 89 minutes of the 2-2 draw with AS Roma after being handed a surprise start.
The 33-year-old England midfielder recently joined the Rossoneri on loan from LA Galaxy and has already made a positive impression on his team-mates and Milan coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti said after seeing Beckham show up well: "Beckham has proved in the few days he has been with us that he is a tactically intelligent player who can provide balance.
"He also trained well and is in good shape physically, so this was his reward for settling in so quickly. I think everyone is happy that Beckham has arrived.
"I will never tire of pointing out he is an exemplary professional who works hard."
Beckham himself was also pleased with his Milan bow, adding: "I feel very good, very strong, a lot stronger than I thought I was going to feel. I had fun out there.
"I was surprised to have started the game but I am happy. Playing out there is what I love doing and I enjoyed it.
"When we had the meeting before the game, Ancelotti told all the players what the team was and that's when I found out.
"I didn't think I would last that long but I felt so good, but at half-time I felt really strong. I think the manager saw that I felt good, that I still had energy and he kept me on.
"I'm glad the manager kept me as long as he did because I needed time on the pitch in order to get match fitness."
